Frequently Asked Questions
“HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD NEEDS TUTORING?”
If grades, homework, motivation and attitude in and out of school are declining, it is probably an indication that your student is struggling in one or more subjects and Scholars tutoring should be considered.
“HOW WILL TUTORING HELP MY CHILD?”
The tools and skills students learn at Scholars reflect positively in all subjects and result in noticeable changes in outlook, increased confidence in academics, and pride in the resulting successes.
“WHY IS SCHOLARS BETTER THAN OTHER TUTORING OPTIONS?”
Our reputation speaks for itself. Scholars is highly respected throughout the Sacramento area educational community, as well as among parents and students. That’s why most new students are referred to us by school administrators, counselors, and by our many very satisfied clients. Unlike “chainstore” tutoring options, the regimen we set up with you for your child does not require a long-term, expensive contract and we do not use pre-determined
curriculum.
“DO YOU KNOW MY CHILD’S CURRICULUM?”
Schools follow State of California curriculum, but classrooms differ in pace, teachers’ expectations, testing, materials, etc. Each student’s individual class syllabus, textbook and assignments are all taken into consideration when the tutoring strategy is mapped out for that student.
“WILL YOU COMMUNICATE WITH MY CHILD’S SCHOOL AND TEACHERS?”
We use every resource available when tutoring your child. When applicable, with parental authorization, we monitor online school grade/progress reports and encourage feedback from teachers and counselors.
“DOES SCHOLARS WORK WITH SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS?”
We have very successfully helped many students who have learning and/or physical challenges. The dedication, patience and attention by our tutors to all clients, including those with special needs, are unsurpassed.

Success Stories
We are proud of our growth, our success and most of all, our students. The following is just a sampling of the many positive comments we regularly receive from students and their parents.
GEOMETRY / Rio Americano sophomore: “We love Scholars! The personal attention our daughter got helped her go up two grade levels in Geometry in a very short time. The cost was significantly lower than another tutoring company where we’d previously taken our son. We’ll be returning soon for our daughter’s SAT class.”
AP CALCULUS / Christian Brothers seniors: “A few of us were having trouble keeping up in the class, so Scholars put together a schedule where we could meet together with the tutor. It worked out great and we all ended up with good scores on the AP test.”
TERM PAPER / St. Francis junior:"I was dreading doing this paper, but you helped me plan all the steps and find the right way to include all the required information. I was even happier when I got an A- on the paper!"
FALLING GRADES / Arden Middle School student: “My son had gone from honor roll student to C’s, D’s and even an F. After working with Scholars tutors in all his subjects, within weeks, his grades were all C’s and above. By the end of the semester, he was back on the honor roll."
ALL SUBJECTS / anonymous parents: “Our daughter had some problems and had to go into independent study. She needed regular guidance
through all her school work. Scholars was wonderful with matching her with great tutors and getting her through the school year. We’re especially
grateful for the confidence our daughter has again.“
PRE CALCULUS / Mira Loma I.B. mom: “My daughter cried every night over her math homework. Now, I can’t tell you how good it is to see her come out of her tutoring sessions smiling. She really understands what she’s doing in Pre-Calc now. This is a huge weight off her shoulders. Thank you so much!”
PHYSICS / Jesuit mom: “We couldn’t find a qualified Physics tutor until we brought our son to Scholars. He was able to keep up with the class and achieve an A! That made it easier for him to keep up with his other classes, too.”
ALGEBRA / Sacred Heart 7th grader: Mom texted us to proudly announce that her daughter earned 100% on her Algebra test…a first for her. Her
teacher also raved about her accomplishments.
MULTIPLE SUBJECTS / Rio Americano mom: “For some reason, my son’s grades started falling this year. He didn’t want to listen to me nag him
about his school work. I’m so glad we brought him to Scholars! They’ve worked patiently with him to get him back on track. They monitor his Zangle test scores and know if he misses homework assignments. His grades are gradually rising and he’s turning in homework on time.“
SUMMER WRITING WORKSHOP / Jesuit freshman dad:“I wanted my son to be the best writer he could be because that’s a skill that will always be a benefit to him. Now he’s able to work through all his writing projects with strong reasoning skills.”
SUMMER READING / St. Francis sophomore: “I just got the grades from my summer reading tests back today and I got a 36/40. So that’s a 90%, A-. I’m so happy I was able to come to you guys for help.”
SAT TEST PREP / ACT PREP:
Christian Brothers mom: “My daughter is smart, but she still learned a lot from your prep class. The strategy training and the practice test were great in helping her reach 2150 on her SATs!”
Oak Ridge junior: “The ACT Prep Class really prepared me for the test and helped me know what to expect. My goal was to score 30, I got
33!”
Jesuit: “I wanted to let you know that my son’s ACT score went up to 32 after working with Scholars. He’s thrilled and so are we!”
EL Camino: “I want to thank Scholars for helping me move my ACT score from 25 to 30!”
Christian Brothers senior: “I’m a terrible test taker. I had to move my SAT score up 80 points to meet the requirements for the college that had given me a provisional offer. The Scholars tutors knew how to make the test less stressful and target my weak subjects. I ended up raising
my score 120 points!”
COLLEGE CONNECTION / Woodcreek dad: “We didn’t know where to begin with college application process – it was so complicated and we just didn’t have time to figure it all out. It was worth every penny to have our daughter work with the college advisor at Scholars. She was accepted to every one of the schools she applied to”.
COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAYS:
St. Francis senior: “I wasn’t sure what prompt to choose or how to write the best essay possible. Mary helped me work out a great thesis statement and outline. And, she reviewed my drafts until it was ready to send.” UPDATE: She was accepted to her top-choice college!"
Another satisfied parent: “Eileen guided my twin son and daughter through all their essay requirements with great results. My son is now at UC Berkeley and my daughter is at Santa Clara. They (and we) are thrilled!”
COLLEGE SEARCH / Sacramento dad: "We needed some hand-holding when doing our daughter's college search. Eileen provided insight and advice that was invaluable.".
